Are you where your feet are?

The festive season is almost upon us and it can be pretty full on, can’t it?

This year we’ve already had a faux Christmas with my sister and brother-in-law in Dubai, Tom’s side of the family are coming to stay this weekend, we’re driving down to Essex for a few days for Christmas itself, then we’ll be visiting Tom’s dad for another Christmas dinner, as well as spending time with my parents. Oh, and we’re having friends over for my annual Christmas gathering (the first since the pandemic). There are more things I could be doing but I chose to say no, preferring to conserve my limited supply of energy so I can enjoy the festivities without feeling completely exhausted and overwhelmed.

How about you? Do you have lots going on too, or will the next few weeks be a little quieter for you?

Either way, I’d love to share a simple piece of advice that can help you experience less stress and more ease during the Christmas period:

Be where your feet are.

When you’re switching off from work and getting ready to navigate the festivities, it’s easy to get in a fluster about the things we didn’t get done and the things we need to do next. To worry about getting stuck in Christmas Eve traffic or making sure your family has the perfect day.

Whatever triggers you at this time of year, be where your feet are.

Instead of worrying about yesterday’s tricky conversation or constantly checking your watch to make sure you miss the traffic, be where your feet are.

Enjoy the company of the people you’re with rather than thinking about where you need to be next.

Immerse yourself in your own experience rather than checking your phone to see what everyone else is doing.

Be where your feet are.

It’s my intention to use those five words as my mantra over the next few weeks. Could you do the same?
