How do you want to do January this year?
This post started life as an episode of my podcast, Unfrazzle. If you prefer, you can listen here (3m 46s)
How are you feeling as we welcome in a new year?
Your answer to that question might depend on how the last few weeks unfolded for you. Were you rushing about all over the place, wrangling over-excited kiddos, spending time with family and throwing yourself into all the festive fun and frivolity?
Or did you hunker down under a blanket watching Christmas movies – or avoiding them if you don’t enjoy this time of year – doing jigsaws, eating mince pies and alternating between a glass of mulled wine and a mug of hot chocolate? (Or was that just me?)
Did you switch off from work entirely, or have you been dipping into your business in the quieter moments?
However you spent this festive season – whether this time of year is fun or difficult for you – I hope you’re taking care of yourself, and finding moments of rest.
So how are you feeling now?
Excited to dive straight into January and start making incredible things happen, all guns blazing?
Or are you feeling called to take things gently, easing yourself into the new year slowly, calmly and quietly?
This is a question I’ve asked every January since the podcast started, because it’s important.
There’s no right or wrong way to ‘do’ January.
You don’t have to hit the ground running if you don’t want to. It’s ok to take it slowly, if you’re still feeling called to rest.
So when I ask how you’re feeling as we start the new year, it’s not a trick question.
It’s not a test.
It’s an invitation. To consider how you want the next few weeks to unfold, and then being intentional about it, whatever that looks like for you.
Whether you’re on team GO! or team S L O W this January, it’s all good!
And it’s important to make sure your plan for the month reflects that.
As you start thinking about what you’d love to focus on and accomplish this month, pause for a second to consider how you want your January to feel.
Buzzy, full of activity and action? Or spacious, reflective and calm? Perhaps a bit of both?
You know yourself best. You’ve navigated many Januarys already.
So, what feels right for you right now? And how can you make sure your plan for this month aligns with that?
As always, I hope this helps. I wish you a very happy new year that’s full of all the good fs – focus, fulfilment and fun - and look forward to seeing you again soon.
